Society Committees

A society is a committee that remains subordinate to another large head assembly, all the society committees’ work under the supervision of the assembly above it. The organization and of this committee requires a vote by all its entitled members. Such society committees are also known as committee of the whole. A committee is a necessary aspect of every organization, whether the organization is small or large, for smooth, efficient working, and to remove congestion from work it requires functional committees. The society committee contains about ten to twenty members; each member gets his/her own piece of work with a respective task of completion on time. The committee works on with a motive to attain the goal, for this purpose the issue is raised, long discussions are made and the final decision is taken in consent with the members. The size of the society committee is maintained in accordance with the task assigned to them, most of them have a size that is between 15 and 20.

Committees are a way to formally draw together people of relevant expertise from different parts of an organization, otherwise they would not have a good way to share information and coordinate actions. This technique of bringing people from various fields helps in widening viewpoints and sharing out the responsibilities given to them. For specialized knowledge or technical judgment the committee can be empanelled with experts, also the committee is made with a number of juniors guided by few seniors. Along with various advantages it has many disadvantages too; there is a possibility of procrastination, objectionable compromises in order to build harmony and groupthink. Debate over any issue is continued till all the members respond in favor of any single point raised, this consumes a lot of time and instead this time can be utilized elsewhere.

Various other functions performed by a committee are governance, coordination, project management, research and recommendations. In an organization the number of members is too large and it is very difficult for them to take part in decisions at the same time, so instead of this a committee is given the power to make decisions. Coordination is another aspect of society committee; individuals from different parts come to share the work. Committees are developed to make research, to develop things and to introduce innovative thinking into the planned project. Development of short committees helps in attaining a better project management and thus increase the performance of the whole organizations.
